Water storage and distribution

Tanks, level control and pipework that keep supply steady when demand peaks or the source is intermittent.

Storage

A tank turns an unreliable source into a reliable supply

Mains supply that comes and goes, a borehole that gives a steady trickle, a pump that cannot match peak demand: a tank in the right place solves all three. Level control starts and stops the pump so nobody has to.

Where it stands, how big it is and how it is piped decide whether the supply feels steady.

How it works

A tank, a pump and a float level

Open the taps and watch the pump start and stop on its own.

How a tank and float level keep supply steady
Water storage and distribution A pump fills a raised tank from a source. A float level starts the pump when the tank is low and stops it when full. A pipe distributes water to buildings. Source Pump stops (high level) Pump starts (low level) Raised storage tankDistribution to buildings

TapsClosed

Press Open taps. As the tank drops to the low level the pump starts, and it stops again at the high level. Illustrative: levels, tank size and pump size are set for each site.

What we ask about

What we look at and what we ask about so the recommendation fits your site, not a generic one.

  • Daily use and the peak hour
  • How reliable the source is
  • Hours of cover you want if the source fails
  • Height available for a raised tank
  • Space, access and ground conditions
  • The buildings or points of use served

Questions

Frequently asked questions

How big should my tank be?

Enough for the cover you want during a supply interruption plus peak demand. We size it with you from your daily use and how reliable the source is.

Raised tank or booster set?

A raised tank supplies by gravity and is simple to run. A booster set suits sites where raising a tank is impractical. Some sites use both.

How does float level control work?

A float or level sensor starts the pump when the tank falls to a low level and stops it when the tank is full, so the tank stays within a set band.
