Solar pumping

Pumping powered by the sun, with storage so water is there when you need it, where grid power is costly or out of reach.

Solar pumping

Sunshine does the pumping. A tank does the waiting

A solar pump works while the sun shines, so output rises and falls through the day. Storing the water in a raised tank means supply is there in the evening, overnight and on cloudy days.

We design the pump, the tank and the controls around your daily water need. Solar power comes from our group sister business Solarpro where it makes sense.

How it works

Solar pumping across a day

Slide the time of day and watch the output follow the sun.

How solar pumping follows the sun
Solar pumping system The sun moves across the sky. Solar panels power a controller and a borehole pump. Pumping output follows the sunshine and fills a raised tank. Solar panels Controller Borehole pump Raised tank To use
Time12:00
Pump output100 %
Water pumped so far50 %

Slide the time of day. Output rises with the sunshine and the raised tank stores water for the evening and for cloudy spells. Illustrative: real output depends on panel size, pump, borehole and the weather.

What we cover

The parts of a solar pumping system

  • Pump selection for the borehole, dam or surface source
  • Solar array sizing and mounting
  • Controller or drive built for solar supply
  • Tank and trough storage
  • Hybrid or backup options where needed
  • Installation and commissioning

What we ask about

What we look at and what we ask about so the recommendation fits your site, not a generic one.

  • Daily water volume and peak need
  • Lift and distance from source to use
  • Source yield, from a pumping test if it is a borehole
  • Sun exposure and space for panels
  • How many days of storage you want
  • Whether grid or generator backup is wanted
The group

Solar power through Solarpro

Pumpro owns the water solution and your project. Where the job needs solar power, our sister business Solarpro can support the solar side so you still deal with one point of contact for the system.

  • One project contact
  • Solar sized to the pump, not the other way round

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Does solar pumping work at night?

The pump itself runs when the sun shines. Water stored in a tank covers the night and cloudy spells. Batteries or a hybrid arrangement are options when you need pumping at other times.

Is solar pumping cheaper than grid power?

Running cost is usually low because sunlight is free, but upfront cost, site conditions and use decide the overall picture. We compare options using your own numbers.

Who supplies the solar panels?

Where solar power is needed, our group sister business Solarpro can support the solar side of the system.
